Log Cabin Beds and Baths – Creative Ideas with Beautiful Pictures!

Our log cabin on the lake in upper Minnesota has lots of interesting bed & bath decor ideas for the perfect cabin vibe.

Sleeping……

The Primary Bedroom has to be about the tiniest room ever to be called a “Primary”. Because it is so small I limited the comforter and curtains to white with a gray throw and shams.

Originally the curtains were a country yellow, but the white curtains I sewed better contributed to the calming effect I was going for. The rod is made from plumber’s piped spray painted black.

The one nod to color is the whimsical dresser I purchased at “Mama’s Happy”, a very fun occasional shop in Mound, Minnesota. I love how this woman and her “Mamas” have built their business.

There was no ceiling light in the Primary, so I grouped three cage lights from Target and plugged them into the outlet tied to the light switch.

On the one large wall opposite the window I hung black and white photos I took in Hawaii of fascinating tree roots. I could not hide the cords from the ceiling lights so I incorporated them into the collage.

I constructed the frames from pine lumber that I distressed and whitewashed. To do this, I made a wooden paddle with lots of drilled screws and beat the heck out of the inexpensive boards. I added more nicks with a sheetrock hammer and wood chisel. It was great fun wailing on the boards. Since the frames were custom-built, I could make them different sizes which added to the visual interest. The collage was not too busy as the subject matter and frame color stayed black and white.

What could be more fitting in a log cabin than log beds, dressers, nightstands, a bench, and a mirror. Even though they are much too large for the space I could not replace them because they are just too cool.

Beach towels are stored in a #12 Red Wing Union Stoneware crock placed next to the door leading to the lake. This vintage crock was made in southern Minnesota in the early 1900s. My great grandfather, Karel Kmoch, used it to brew beer and my grandmother, Vlasta Hanak, used it to brine pickles.

Bathing…….

The main floor bath features a shower curtain with a mama bear and her babies – just in case you forgot you were “Up North”.

We added a shower rod and towel rods configured out of plumber’s pipe purchased at Home Depot. Initially, I did not paint the pipe, but I quickly did so after it started to rust in the high humidity.

To add extra storage I tucked a metal stand between the vanity and bathtub.

When we purchased the cabin the tile in the bathtub was broken and in disrepair. We removed the old tile and rotting wood window, then installed new cement board, new tile, and a new waterproof window and trim. In the process my husband plumbed the shower head higher to accommodate his 6’2″ frame. The faucet handle was also plumbed higher than the normal position just above the tub faucet. We never used the tub and it made turning on the shower much easier.

The decor in the main bathroom included corrugated metal letters from Hobby Lobby, glazed wall shelf from Home Goods, and two art prints of fish left by the previous owner. The dated vanity light was replaced with a much more cabin worthy fixture purchased at Menards.

The lower level bath has a canoe shelf which sits atop an open cabinet I built from old dock pieces found in the yard. I made the cabinet to fit the baskets and space exactly.

The bathroom has a pedestal sink and shower. It also received an undated light fixture with four bulbs instead of the original three.

Daryl attached floating shelves above the toilet and I had fun adding my touches. The fish plate was a thrift store find given to me by my sister, Christie. The cribbage board behind is an odd item to have in a bathroom, but it was left in the cabin by previous owners, and I like how it highlighted the plate.
