Home Decorating Ideas to Love!

Surprise! Public Bathrooms You Will Not Believe!

Public Bathrooms are the last place one hopes to see a beautiful design, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon three very different, but very interesting bathrooms.  I love it when I discover a uniquely designed space in an unexpected place.  Let me tell you what I found.

1. Gorgeous Gas Station Bathroom

Imagine my surprise when I walked into a Love’s gas station in the middle of North Dakota and found this lovely bathroom.  I was so enamored I had to take photos.

The Moraccan style tile on two walls is the star of the show.

The taupe color on the stall doors and ceiling coordinates nicely with the busy tile.  Ceilings are usually an afterthought, but this one is well done.

The second tile is a stable striated grey that keeps the room light.

The third tile above the sinks and on the back wall of the commode stall is a shimmery design that adds sparkle to the two matte tiles.

Lastly, the floor tile is a warm brown which grounds the whole design and keeps it from being to matchy-matchy.

It feels like a woman was a part of this design. The long vanity top has clean lines with simple faucets.  The black towel dispenser and silver soap dispenser do not detract from the iridescent tile.  And, the attractive wall hooks in the stalls and next to the baby changing station are a functional plus.

2. Stately Hotel Bathroom

My second public bathroom is in the ClubHouse Hotel & Suites in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and not quite as big a surprise.  Once again, I am drawn to the beautiful tile.

The style is European with pewter medallions featured in the diamond-laid textured stone tile.  The top border follows the same pattern with tiny diamonds interspersed with smaller medallions.

The bottom border is the same pewter but, with a swag design.

The top third of the wall is painted to resemble a Venetian glaze.

I love the ornate mirrors and dark granite vanity top.

The same granite divides the stalls and the rich wood doors add warmth to the space.

3. Playful Coffee House Bathroom

My last bathroom takes a total turn from the first two and is fun and eclectic.  It is located in the Flour House, a quaint bakery located in Princeton, IL.  I first noticed it a couple of years ago when taking my daughter, Kate, to the train depot for her trip back to school in Chicago.  Even though I had not yet started my blog I knew I wanted to talk about this whimsical space.

When you first step into the bathroom you are captivated by the perfect balance of black and white.

The basketweave patterned floor tile is mimicked on the wall at the top of the clean white subway tile.  Notice how the white grout keeps the lower half of the wall a solid color.

The top half of the walls and ceiling are painted black.  Then, the fun begins!

The clever chalk drawings kept me entertained far longer than I normally would spend in a public bathroom.

I appreciate the attention to detail.  The black chair with the print pillow.  The black commode seat.

The black wire basket holding extra toilet paper.  The black wastebasket.  The black hand towel container.

The silver mirror and light fixture do not detract from the black and white theme.

And, of course, I love the practical wall hook for hanging a purse.

The icing on the cake was one pop of color.  A vintage French biscuit tin sitting on the back of the commode.

There is not one thing I would change about this perfect whimsical space.

I hope you have enjoyed my Public Bathroom surprises as much as I have.
